Fundraising/Special Events Planning Volunteer

These volunteers will need to be fingerprinted and background checked as they may come into contact with children/youth at special events. However, it is not necessary for them to go through the CASA training. An understanding of and commitment to the CASA Mission is still important, but this opportunity would be great for those with less time to commit, or who prefer not to be involved with direct client services.

Qualities that would enhance one’s ability to thrive in this position include:

Experience with fundraising, event planning & execution, community outreach and/or social networking
Knowledge of Bay Area venues that may be appropriate for various CASA events
Personal connections with philanthropic groups, potential donors and local business people
Ability to engage high-profile members of the community and share the CASA Mission, potentially gaining commitment to make a guest-appearance or speak at events.

Examples of duties include but are not limited to:

  • Researching and booking venues for special events
  • Event planning
  • Creating and assisting with the printing of invitations, RSVP cards, programs, etc.
  • Assisting with mailings
  • Promoting and publicizing special events
  • Securing guest speakers and helping arrange the structure of events
  • Soliciting donations for raffles and/or silent auctions; assisting with raffle & auction logistics
  • Writing “thank you” notes for donations and support received in regards to events
  • Picking out decorations
  • Ordering food and drinks
  • Assisting with setup and cleanup


Office Volunteer Position

On a limited basis, Office Support Volunteers may work on assignments within CASA’s San Leandro office. Fingerprinting and background checks are required, but volunteers do not need to complete the CASA advocate training. Office volunteers may volunteer from 1-5 hours per week on an as-needed basis.

Examples of duties include but are not limited to:

  • Creating, folding and readying brochures for field activities
  • Organizing/purging files
  • Updating and maintaining the CASA wait list
  • Assisting with mass mailings
  • Filing
  • Helping with office tasks related to fundraising efforts
  • Updating information on the web
